The VTTA is for anyone over 40 years of age who has an interest in time trialling. The site provides details of current activities, racing information and details of useful contacts in Surrey and Sussex.

The VTTA was established in 1943 by E H Strevens, with the aim of providing the older racing cyclist with realistic competition so they would be encouraged to continue in the sport after their abilities had started to decline. Strevens devised a set of Standards in tabular form, which provide individuals with an unending challenge, thereby providing motivation for continuous competition within the sport. The Standards, which are either times for set distances, or distances for set times begin at the age of 40 and become more generous with each passing year standards for women are similar to those for men but there is a phased shift to reflect physiological differences.

Ray Dare came out of retirement to ride in the S.C.C.U. 100 on July 27th and recorded a time of 5.15.44. This broke the existing National Vets record for an 82 year old, set in 1980 by A.V. Mason, by 57m 44s. It's Ray's only time trial this year and he entered having decided about four weeks before to support the event. The next sighting of Ray will be at the CTC Birthday Rides and after that, it's back to the 40 Plus and the S.W. London Section of the CTC. Ray started cycling with his parents as a 9 year old with the local CTC Section and has ridden his bike ever since, apart from a two year break when he was working abroad. We'll miss his name on the result sheets but wish him many more years of trouble free cycling.
